Judgement

Major Arcana

Meaning of Each Tarot Card

Judgement, Major Arcana, meaning of each Tarot card

The image of Judgement, like many others in the Tarot, belongs to the medieval past. It is the day of final Judgement, where an archangel sounds the horn and all the worthy souls travel to the afterlife.

Rebirth and creation follow this period and this concept is part of every major religion and spirituality. It is a day of darkness and uncertainty where whatever lies ahead will change your path and start you in a new direction.

Usually, the Tarot card for Judgement shows an angelic figure sounding a horn above a group of people. They are looking to the heavens, reaching to the sky, appealing for salvation.

The second-to-last card in the Tarot cycle, Judgement is the day of reckoning, not in a religious sense but in terms of the self. Many times, we spend periods assessing ourselves, what we have achieved and what we hope for. We take our failings out to examine them and then see where we can go from there.

Upright: Often Judgement can be a literal decision, something long overdue and necessary. Any movements made at this time will be positive, so take this time to move ahead with faith. When Judgement appears, it is a time where everything becomes clear after a period of acting in the dark. Not only do you now benefit from seeing the whole picture clearly, this new wave of energy infuses all areas of your life.

If you have been concerned about work or health, Judgement indicates that you are now in a period where healing and growth have taken place and it's time for a fresh start. Enjoy this new period - you have struggled and emerged on the other side. Time for a fresh start!

Reversed: When Judgement is reversed, you may be wishy-washy about making a much-needed decision. This inability to commit to a decision is creating a boring void in your life. Now is the time to make up your mind and move ahead. If you don't decide, a decision will be made for you. Often Judgement relates to a fear of change. You might be someone who is dependent on routine and avoids decisions whenever possible.

Emotionally, Judgement can indicate a painful loss that you haven't yet recovered from. You may be parted from your lover or have to spend time away from your family due to work. If there are problems in your relationship, it may be that it is winding down but no-one is ready to say farewell yet!
