Meaning of Each Tarot Card

Major Arcana, 4 The Emperor

The elemental "masculine" card, the Emperor is a symbol for the patriarchal father-figure gods of myth. Powerful and mighty, the Emperor encourages thinking versus feeling, using scientific principles and logic to understand the world.

Planning and long-term achievement are an essential part of the Emperor along with success in the constraints of corporate life.

Upright: The Emperor is a symbol for design and structure and the control and power that is connected to it. Success and stability help you make your mark on the world; when the Emperor appears, your plans and perseverance have been noticed and you are on your way up.

The stern Emperor is a father-like figure, his authority and presence combined with wisdom. His constant need for control and an inability to express and confront emotions can lead to issues with personal relationships; the Emperor excels in the boardroom but is hindered in the home.

Reversed: When the Emperor is reversed, it may seem like nothing you do can affect change in your life. While this may be a time where authority figures feel particularly constraining, learning to work with rules and regulations now may be the key to future successes.

If you are used to having power, you may find that your are forced to work with others; your perspective could see this as a loss of authority.

This could also be a time where you have to work through a relationship with a dominant partner or parent. Be wary of hiding your feelings behind your work - you will suffer for it in the long run.

Meaning of Each Tarot Card Keywords: power, domination, control, structure, success, worldly achievements, repressed feelings, father-figure, promotions, logic, control-issues, regulations and structure, loss of authority, emotionless individual
